Frequently Asked Questions
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE? My style is very adaptive to the participants in front of the lens, I like to discover what style fits your personality and suits your family best. With that being said, with every shoot from the first click of the camera to the final tweak in post editing, I aim to create an EMOTIONAL. AUTHENTIC. VIBRANT, image. I execute this by applying a "directed photojournalism," style to my sessions which is a balance between the directed and carefree, real-life moments.
WHAT GEAR DO YOU SHOOT WITH? I'm a Nikon girl. I have multiple camera bodies, a Nikon Z7ii (mirrorless), D850, D750, D700. The lenses in my bag are a 24-70, 85mm, 50mm, 35mm, and my main love, the 70-200. In my studio I shoot with an Alien Bee 400 studio light with a PLM Umbrella and reflectors/support light.
HOW CAN MY PHOTOS LOOK GREAT? I provide the artistic vision, experience, and camera gear---but YOU are the one who makes the image. I find the best images are those which are natural. Please feel free to be yourself, relax, and enjoy the moment! Leave the rest up to me!
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME FOR MATERNITY PHOTOS? If I had to say the ideal time for maternity pics, it would be around 32 weeks this ensures you aren't too close to your due date, have a nice round belly to photograph, and is prior to feeling that end of pregnancy misery. However, I can do maternity pictures whenever you feel comfortable up until your due date.
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME FOR NEWBORN PHOTOS? Newborns have a sleepy period of life averaging for about the first two-three weeks of life. I ideally like to book my newborn clients between 5 and 18 days old, although I will photograph between 3-25 days.
CAN I SEE SOME OF YOUR IMAGES? Of COURSE you can! My latest images appear on my social media outlets often, and you can see some of my all time favorites in my GALLERIES.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY SESSION? First and foremost, don't try too hard! Make sure you wear clothes that represent who you and your family are! If you are coordinating with others, my suggestion is to select a color pallette with at least two neutrals included and make sure the pallette is represented well among your family as a whole. You can play with patterns and textures as well, and don't forget to accessorize! Although all rules are made to be broken, I suggest limiting prints (such as busy florals/plaids/stripes), to 1-2 family members. If you would like to see some examples, please check out my PINTEREST board which has some great suggestions!
DO YOU HAVE PROPS AVAILABLE? I have too many props. I admit it. For most sessions, I will provide the props if they are needed...I have a slew of little kids chairs, crates, and trunks. I will usually bring along a large quilt or two for outdoor sessions. We will correspond if we are doing a styled shoot and I will obtain props to fulfill that style! If you have something you want to be included in your session, however, please let me know and bring it along! I LOVE when shoots include personal sentiments from your life!
HOW DO I BOOK A SESSION? Decide which collection you would like to book, CONTACT me and we will discuss scheduling. A $100 non-refundable retainer is due at the time of booking to secure a date. I will send you an invoice for this deposit via Paypal. Once received, I will send you a questionnaire to fill out to discuss the details for your session and a contract for service for you to sign via a digital program.
WHAT METHODS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT? I prefer to do most invoicing through Paypal, however I also accept check or cash. For retainer fee, paypal is the fastest method to secure your session.
WHAT IF IT RAINS ON SHOOT DAY? If weather on the day of our shoot isn't ideal, I always recommend rescheduling. My work is inspired by light and basically its not going to make anyone happy by being wet in photographs! If this happens, we will reschedule for the next available time for both of us, which my schedule is usually flexible to do a quick reschedule.
WHAT IF I NEED TO RESCHEDULE? I understand that life happens and sometimes it happens fast. If you are able, please provide at least 24 hours notice to cancelling the shoot. As much notice as possible is much appreciated! Your retainer will continue to apply to a session and we will reschedule at the next most convenient time for both parties. Your deposit will only apply to one reschedule (unless in the case of inclement weather or photographer cancellation).
CAN MY DOG BE IN MY SESSION? I love doggies and I know they are an important part of your family! As long as your dog, is good-tempered and somewhat easy to handle, I definitely invite them out to the session! Please let me know, however, if they are going to be a participant so I can make sure the location we select allows for it. Not a dog person? Any family pet, if you want them involved, we can discuss it.
DO YOU OFFER ANY DISCOUNTS? Military families who book a deployment homecoming session will receive a $50 voucher towards a future session with TLR.
TLR has a referrel program which if your friend mentions your name on their questionnaire, you will receive a $25 voucher towards a session! (*certain restrictions apply).
I also regularly offer holiday mini sessions and quick deals via social media, so be sure to follow me!
Please feel free to contact me with any other questions!
